Sweet tree

Trees are an endless source of interesting material. I am always drawn to the ones that stand alone in a field. This is a 12x12" oil painting on board.
A storm was coming up over the horizon. It was a race to finish before the rain came!

Two Pears in graphite

This medium is so rich. My technique still requires some practice, but this rendering is an improvement.

Curling leaf

This is powdered graphite mixed with galkyd on mylar.

I love this medium and plan to do more with it. The challenge is working without color, but the results are amazing when done correctly.

The image is approximately 6x8".

Birches

Birch trees are such great subject matter for painting. This pair were intertwined and leaning in a clearing. This painting is oil on canvas and measures 8x12".

I have had several requests for more Italy paintings, so I am working on one right now which is taking a bit longer than a day! I am also working on some images using powdered graphite mixed with oil on mylar. I will post some of these soon!

Cortona, Italy

This is an oil painting that I did a few months ago, before I was posting on the blog. Since I have been at Open Studios all weekend, I am posting some older pieces. This is a scene I shot in Cortona, Italy. The painting is oil on canvas, 8x12".

Great success this weekend- 5 paintings sold! Thanks to everyone who stopped by!

Open Studios

I painted today, but ended up wiping the canvas clean. Instead of a painting tonight, I am posting a final announcement for the Belmont/Watertown Open Studios this weekend. Friday night- April 23, at the Belmont Gallery (located at the Homer Building in the Belmont town Hall complex) there is an opening reception at 5:30pm.
Saturday and Sunday, from 11-5PM, I will be showing some of my work at my office in Belmont Center- 66 Leonard St. I will briefly disappear to deliver my daughter to a fencing tournament from 2:30-3:30 on Saturday, but otherwise I will be there all day!

I look forward to seeing you there!

These pears were so beautifully presented in these pale green wrappings. I just had to include them in the painting! Thank you all for following my blog- it is so satisfying to paint every day!

My office in Belmont Center is quickly being transformed into a gallery! Hope some of you will be able to stop in on Saturday or Sunday11-5PM.

This is an oil painting in panel- 6x6"

Lone tree

I am always drawn to trees that seem to stand alone. The slight bend to the trunk on this one is beautiful. This painting is oil on panel- 6x12".

As soon as I get through the open studios this weekend and learn how to post ebay auctions with links from the blog, I will begin selling the paintings. Several people have shown interest, and I just haven't been ready to do it!
Thanks!

Neighborhood bunny

My sister just had her first baby a couple of weeks ago. This is a painting for the baby. I painted it from a photo I took of a rabbit in our neighborhood. It was fun to do something so different!

It is 8x12" oil on panel

Wild violets

All around my neighborhood, these tiny violets are popping up- some in the cracks of sidewalks, some around the edges of stone walls. They are so charming! I had a tiny antique glass bottle to put them in and create this still life. This is oil on board 6x6".

I am working on expanding my reach by getting more followers. If each person who already follows me would recommend my blog to another person or two, it would be great! Thanks in advance!

Granny Smith 2

I know this looks a lot like yesterday's post, but it is new! I'm enjoying this subject matter. Again, 6x6", oil on panel.
I am painting in a studio on the third floor of our house. The space is quite large, but rather rough, as it is an attic. Today I was joined by my tenants cat Lucy which was great, except that every time I stepped back to look at the paintings from a distance and sat down, she jumped up onto my lap! Cats are excellent studio companions.

Garlic

I have increased the scale a bit- this is oil on canvas- 18x18". My intentions long term are to go much larger. Ordinary objects seen at 4x8 ft will leave a very different impression than 6x6".

This is a study- moving in a new direction.

Easter bouquet

I received this lovely vase of flowers from a friend and carved time out of the hustle and bustle of Easter to paint them! My husband deserves credit for cooking the meal! I think these will have to be revisited several more times, as they are so beautiful and have such an interesting combination of textures.
It is oil on board, 8x8"
