Hey everyone!

Summer is here and I am preparing for a show I have been invited to participate in the autumn.

Two views of the annual apple picking pilgrimage most New Englanders participate in every autumn.

Long time no see- check out Tumbleweed Tiny Houses!

Hey everyone!  So sorry for the long absence, but things around here in Boston have been, shall we say, a little Crazy!  During stressful, dangerous times, my creative juices dry up- but I am now in recovery mode and ready to start again.

I am jumping back on to share about a workshop I attended this weekend- Tumbleweed Tiny Houses!  Honesty, I don't think I have ever wanted to build much of anything in my life, but after sitting through two full days (yes, two full days) listening to this magnificent presenter (Ella) and meeting a load of fantastic folks attending the workshop- I am on board!  My hope is to some day build a Tumbleweed studio/ guest house in a backyard somewhere near a coastline- wouldn't that be idyllic??  Anyhow- the short version is that these Tumbleweed people started off building a house on a trailer- so friggin cute!  The houses can actually be towed around with you!

See pictures to understand better-
This is Ella- 24 years old and build her Tumbleweed to afford to live happily- built it for 15,000.
We got a blow by blow on how to build this house- I swear I could do this!
This is Paul- great guy who left Merges and acquisitions job in NYC (I think) to work for Tumbleweed!
We actually got to SEE a Tumbleweed!  Coincidentally they had one being transported and they stopped by.  This is in Coolidge Corner!  You should have seen the attention it got!
 Front door
Half way into the house, looking toward the front at the kitchen
 Bathroom off to the left
And Ella, strumming her banjo for all of us during a break.

Good fun, good folks, and thanks to my step-father for "dragging" me along.  I think I was the one making him stay by the end.  He knows a lot of building stuff, but I don't, so it was a great learning experience for me, but maybe a bit redundant for him! www.tumbleweedhouses.com

Thanks for reading!

Updates

Hello everyone,
I am posting to update on how things are going in the world of Nine Stones Needlework and my artwork and our new kitties!
To start with, Nine Stones- there is a big show in Nashville this weekend, where my amazing distributor will be showing my New England Chapel pattern. At the same time, my amazing stitcher Katie, out in Oregon, is working on a new piece. The red dress painting is coming along beautifully!

This is the original painting.
With my personal artwork, I have been twisting lots and lots of French knots!

More on that front soon!
And lastly, our latest additions to our family- kitties! We finally chose names, after many, many suggestions and lots of disagreements- Buttercup and Monty (short for Inigio Montoya!). The reference is from Princess Bride!

More soon!

Some new watercolors....

I will be posting some new work over the next few days. Lots going on in my creative world these days- painting, stitching, knotting and I am thrilled to announce that I have secured a studio on the coast of Maine with a great friend. This will allow me to offer retreat/ workshop weekends this summer! More on that coming soon.

New Work!

Hello everyone,

After a long break between posts, I am ready to show some new work. This year is going to be one of great focus and determination for me. My cross stitch business is steadily gaining ground and my personal artwork- the French knot paintings, have sparked my creative side in a way I haven't felt in quite a while. The discovery of a way to combine my love of painting and drawing with my passion for fiber art through the French knot work was what I have been searching for.
This is an example of some of the knotted work I have been stitching lately-

Tell me what you think!

Delicate feather

I love feathers, and this little downy one was a challenge to paint, but I am in love with the results!

If you are receiving many posts twice because you subscribe to both of my blogs, please unsubscribe from one to simplify things for your inbox.  I am unable to drop one blog due to high subscriber numbers on both, so I am double posting most days.

Thank you for following!

I wanted to take a minute to say how thankful I am for each of you and all of your support through all of my art posts and this new adventure in cross stitch world! I am truly grateful and could not have gotten where I am without each of you.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family.

I will leave you with a pic of me and a very special bunny- no real reason, except that Binx is so darn cute!

Making something with your hands is healthy....

I have been saying this for a long time now. When I need to decompress, I stitch. Stitching, for me, is a form of meditation. I am not good at rhythmic breathing, "om"ing, or clearing my mind on queue, but I can lose myself in my stitching. Martha Stewart Living has an article in this month's issue (November 2012) about just this.

In the article, they interview a psychologist- Robert Reiner, and I quote him here- "Crafting can decrease your heart rate and blood pressure and even improve sleep. Your breathing takes on a regular pattern, which shuts down the body's anxiety producing fight-or-flight response."

I totally agree! The article goes on to talk about how crafting keeps you present, and in the moment so you can't worry about the future.

I highly recommend picking up this issue and reading the article!

Happy stitching!

Back in the studio!

Hello everyone!

I am back in the studio after a break for politics (I am never very creative when I am stressed!) and also some focused attention on my cross stitch business- Nine Stones Needlework.

To warm up, I am painting Orchids!  Most new work i am posting will be for sale with a PayPal button to simplify things.  Remember, the watercolors come unframed, so if you are thinking holiday gift, leave time for framing!

Cheers!

Online Needle arts Show!

I am participating in an online Needle Arts show starting today and going through the weekend.
This is a clever concept- a trade show without travel!
The way it works is that the general public can go to the website and browse. If you see something you like, you can go to your local Cross Stitch or Needle Arts shop and ask them to order it for you! This really helps me get known by new shops and you get exactly what you want.
Please take a look!

The other exciting bit of news is that a wonderful blogger has featured my French Knot paintings on her blog- http://www.welovefrenchknots.com  I wrote about her blog the other day, but if you go now, you will see the pieces she is showing of mine!

That's all for now!  Happy Stitching!

Progress on the latest Cross Stitch pattern!

It occurs to me that some explanation is necessary when I show cross stitch patterns, French knot paintings, etc.

I choose certain paintings to recreate as cross stitch charts. To make a cross stitch chart I must first have the pattern, which I create with a computer program (and lots of tweaking). I hire a "stitcher" to stitch the pattern for me because you need to check for mistakes in the chart. I also need the piece stitched so I have a photograph of the pattern stitched to put on the front of the chart. (Have I completely confused you yet??). Once all of these steps are done, I can go to the printer and have the final chart printed, which I sell to people to stitch themselves! I also sell kits which are the charts and all of the supplies necessary to finish the pattern- chart, needles, beads, linen, and floss.

So, with all of that information- here is a picture of a piece being stitched by a wonder woman of a stitcher (thank you Marilyn!)

This piece is a New England clapboard church which i first photographed, then painted, and now am making into a cross stitch pattern!

My other love is the French knot work I have been posting about. The French knots I do without a chart- I simply look at the painting as I stitch. However, I am working on adding instructions to the cross stitch charts on how you can use the cross stitch chart to make a French knotted painting as well!

More to come......
